About two hours driving from Skardu is the beautiful Deosai National park which is over 800 sq km and which was created to protect the rare Himalayan brown bear which was almost wiped out because of hunting. Since the creation of the park the brown bear population of Pakistan has slowly been increasing. The Deosai Plains are averagely 4.100 meters above sea level and are the second highest in the world. The park is slowly being discovered by locals and attracts birders, hikers and photographers who mostly come during summer when everything is green and the temperature is nice and warm.
Besides the Himalayan brown bear Deosai National Park is also home to hundreds of birds of which many migratory birds with a peak in September – October, which is an ideal period to come for birders and bird photographers interested in Pakistan’s birds. We can also find markhor, ibex, urial, red fox, golden marmot, snow leopards and others.
Guests are picked up in Skardu, which has an airport. Be careful that flights are sometimes canceled and you might have to choose to go overland. We offer a package of 3 nights and 4 days, allowing you enough time to explore the region and also to relax.
