Travel through Northern Pakistan: Gilgit – Baltistan

Northern Pakistan is arguably one of the most beautiful mountain regions in the world. Sandwiched between the Hindu Kush and Karakoram Mountains, there are many valleys which were sealed off to most of the world until the 1980s , each with its own culture, tradition and population. Choose from our broad offer of trips throughout this fascinating region. We offer tours with a combination of hiking and driving in the North of Pakistan in which we visit the most beautiful parts of the north with also enough attention to the local culture and history. You will have the chance to explore the mighty forts of Hunza, admire the woodwork of the old mosques, get in touch with locals and have satisfying treks through the valleys and the mountains on both sides of the famous Karakoram Highway.

For people interested in getting climbing and mountaineering classes in Pakistan, we also offer a few programmes in which you will learn the basics of ice climbing and mountain climbing together with our specialized teachers. This will help you with your first steps in mountaineering and the beginning of your quest of climbing the summit of mountains such Mount Everest of K2.

Maybe you’re also interested in wildlife photography and birding. We offer a few excellent wildlife tours in the north of Pakistan for your pursuit of the legendary snow leopard and animals such as Pallas’s cat, wooly flying squirrel, the Himalayan brown bear, the Indian wolf or Siberian ibex.

From the rugged Deosai Plains throughout the lush valleys all the way to the Khunjerab Pass and the neighboring Ladakh, this region has plenty to offer and enough to come back again and again!

Discover the Indus Valley along the Karakoram Highway, the legendary connecting route between Pakistan and China, running along the powerful Indus. The road takes you to the Hunza Valley, arguably the most dazzling of the many valleys in Pakistan. The views of Rakaposhi are just magnificent and its memories will stay with you forever. The forts of Karimabad are also a must, renovated by Aga Khan, well maintained, they are truly something else than their medieval colleagues in Europe.

The Shandur Pass is another mythical mountain pass with the annual polo tournament in July, the highest polo tournament in the world, attracting people from all over Pakistan and the rest of the world. Tents are set up on the pass, days in advance to not miss anything of the matches and the surrounding activities.
In the border area with Afghanistan lies Chitral and the mysterious Kafiristan with the valleys of the Kalasha. This non-Muslim population with their blond hair and blue eyes is considered to be descended from the troops of Alexander the Great. Most of the people have meanwhile converted to Islam, but a part of them still practice the traditional Kalash religion, seen as a form of animism by some, and by others as a form of ancient Hinduism.
